Integrated fertilization in Rapeseed

Integrated oilseed rape fertilization for high yields with superior points from Medilco Hellas

Oilseed rape is an important crop, consolidating its position in our country with a continuous increase in cultivated areas. It is a plant that grows in a wide range of soils but performs best in soils of medium composition, with good drainage, rich in organic matter.
Rational nutrition of oilseed rape, always based on the climatic conditions of the area, the expected yield and the nutrient levels in the soil, directly influences the crop’s seed yield and the oil content of the pods.
Oilseed rape has an increased need for nitrogen. At sowing, it is recommended to apply 25 % of the total amount of nitrogen, in order to promote plant growth and strengthen the plants before winter. In spring, nitrogen is essential for vegetative growth, flower development, pod formation and seed development.
Phosphorus is essential, being instrumental in the development of a healthy root system. The plant’s phosphorus needs should be met at the basic fertilisation stage.
Potassium is an equally important nutrient to ensure plant resistance to lodging, providing greater seed weight and overall yield increase.
Sulphur (S) supports protein synthesis and better utilisation of nitrogen by the crop, and is a key contributor to increasing the oil content of the seeds.

The Nova Chava range supports crops with specialised chemical formulas. All the nutrients are available in each grain, offering good dispersion in the field and uniform fertilization of the crop, meeting even the most demanding requirements.
Before sowing oilseed rape, in the basic fertilization, fertilizers should be selected that provide the crop with the necessary nutrients for the development of a good root system.
In soils rich or with phosphorus sufficiency, Nova Chava 22-6-12+B+Zn+Mo is recommended, while in cases of soils with low phosphorus content, the application of Nova Chava 15-15-15 or Nova Chava 12-12-17+2MgO+TE will provide the plants with readily assimilable phosphorus for better root development.
In spring, the crop’s needs begin to increase. Surface fertilization is aimed at adequate growth of the leaf surface and enhancing flowering by ensuring a sufficient number of pods, with good seed weight and high final yields.
Supporting the oilseed rape crop from start to finish, the products recommended for surface application in spring are:

-The unique Nova Chava 40-0-0+14.5 SO3 formula with urease nitrification inhibitor supplies the crop with nitrogen over time to enhance germination and flowering. Nitrogen nitrification inhibition boosts yields while allowing plants to make the most of it!

-Polysulphate to supply plants with potassium, sulphur, calcium and magnesium, which boost plants, improving yields. Polysulphate is a 100% natural mineral fertilizer that boosts yields. In ICL’s experimental fields conducted in England, a landmark country for extensive oilseed rape cultivation, it was shown that two applications of Polysulphate during spring fertilisation can increase yields by 33%.
