Small size - Big performance with sulfur technology!
Sulfur is a rather neglected nutrient in crop nutrition, but it shouldn't be. After NPK, it is often referred to as the fourth most important macronutrient and plays a vital role in plant growth. Fields that are sandy with low soil organic matter or have unfavorable conditions for mineralization, due to excessive cold, wetness, or drought, are at greater risk for sulfur deficiency. Smart Nutrition™ MAP+MST® is an excellent choice for adding essential sulfur to your soil and crops.
Smart Nutrition MAP+MAST technology is a patented technology from Nutrien Ag Solutions in which the elemental sulfur source undergoes microgranulation processing, resulting in an average particle size of 15 microns. The small particle size allows for faster oxidation of elemental sulfur and increased surface area.
It incorporates micronized elemental sulfur directly into the production of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) granules. This creates a uniform distribution of MST in each granule, providing maximum soil contact with the fertilizer and an increased oxidation rate for rapid utilization by crops.
Smart Nutrition™ MAP+MST® combines sulfur and phosphorus in each granule, enhancing the effectiveness of both. This synergy promotes balanced nutrition and enhances growth, health, and performance for improved productivity.
Adequate phosphorus levels can enhance sulfur availability and aid its uptake by crops. Adequate sulfur levels can enhance the availability and utilization of selenium, copper, and calcium—critical nutrients that are necessary for a number of processes within a plant.
In previous trials on corn crops, it was found that monoammonium phosphate (MAP) gave growers an average yield of 4,800 kg per hectare when applied alone. However, when applied together with sulfur using Smart Nutrition MAP+MST technology, the synergistic action of the two elements increased the yield to 5,181 kg per hectare, proving that these two nutrients can offer growers a greater yield advantage when applied together than when applied separately.
Sulfur - The hidden hero in agriculture!
Sulfur is essential for plants to produce two sulfur-containing amino acids (methionine and cysteine) that are necessary for protein production, and if levels are insufficient, productivity will decline. Less frequently discussed is the interaction between sulfur and other nutrients, as well as the need for sufficient sulfur for crops to respond to various stresses. Adequate sulfur nutrition is also important for the synthesis of important compounds that help plants withstand abiotic and biotic stresses that affect cellular activity.
Balanced plant nutrition has many benefits. It is important that each crop has sufficient sulfur to allow for the effective use of other nutrients to maximize biomass, maintain plant health and crop quality, and ultimately crop yield. For this reason, the use of products with advanced and innovative technologies such as Smart Nutrition MAP+MST is now a necessity!
